Tottenham recently sacked Andre Villas-Boas and have replaced Tim Sherwood as the new first-team coach. Stoke city striker Peter Crouch has said that his former club will be able to rediscover the impressive form under the new manager.
Tottenham have been billed as a strong favourite for the top four this season, but a poor run of form in recent weeks has resulted in the club slipping down the table. They recently lost 5-0 at the hands of Liverpool – one of their top four rivals. Crouch is someone who knows Sherwood well and he says that the new manager will be able to get Spurs out of their troubles.
He has been given only a short-term contract – until the end of next season. Since his appointment, results have been on the up and this bodes well for Sherwood to get the job on a permanent basis. The team has been looking extremely good defensively, while the organisation upfront has also improved substantially. Sherwood has brought in Emmanuel Adebayor, who has largely been on the fringes Andre Villas-Boas, and the Togo international has been at the forefront of the revival.
After struggling to score goals throughout the season, Sherwood has been able to get the best out of the team in the last few weeks. They will have a difficult trip to Old Trafford on New Year’s Day.
“It’s a little bit of a surprise. I think young, English coaches these days maybe don’t often get the top jobs. It wouldn’t have been a surprise if you had seen the hierarchy at Spurs go for a foreign coach, so I’m pleased Tim Sherwood has got the job and hopefully some more young British managers can get that kind of opportunity. Many years ago, when I was in the youth team at Tottenham, he was a player there,” said Crouch.
